Tappara Tampere could steal game 1 away from Kärpät Oulu with an overtime victory. Teemu Aalto scored the game-winner
The Liiga Finals are on. And Tappara Tampere could surprise the favourites from Oulu. Although Oulu scored first. Three minutes were played in the 2015 Finals when Joonas Kemppainen could deflect a shot from Mikko Niemelä through the legs of Juha Metsola. It took the first powerplay to get Tappara into the game. With 5 minutes left to the first intermission Josh Green could beat Tomi Karhunen with a shot from the blue line to open up the game again.
In the second period they woke up earlier. Jan-Mikael Järvinen crossed the box of the Kärpät defense and created some space for Pekka Jormakka on the far post, which he could use for the go ahead goal for Tappara. But again it was a powerplay, that remixed the cards. Joonas Donskoi chipped the puck to Mika Pyörälä in the slot and he did not hesitate a second to put it in the net for Oulu.
The third period went by without any further goals and so the stage was set for Teemu Aalto. After 73 seconds in the overtime he received the puck on the blue line, aimed and scored. With the win Tappara now holds the home advantage and can defend that on Friday at home.
