Champions League adds four teams

Due the great interest by European Leagues, the new competition will feature 44 teams instead of planned 40
CHL Board announced today the new Champions Hockey League was expanded from 40 to 44 teams. In total there will be 11 groups, one more then the initially planned 10. Thus the CHL will start next August its first season with eleven groups of four teams each. The group winners and five best runners-up will advance to the knockout stages . The increase from 40 to 44 teams has been decided due the great interest from all European leagues, so representatives from twelve
countries will participate in the CHL . After the end of DEL, partecipants from Germany are now set:champion Ingolstadt, Krefeld Penguins, Eisbaren Berlin, Adler Mannheim, Hamburg Freezers and Kölner Haie. On May 21, the groups will be drawn during the World Championship in Minsk.
