Despite a proud hockey tradition, Slovak teams are out of Europe’s elite league. The numbers explain why. Read more»
With 1:2 win over the ZSC Lions, Lausanne closes gap, needs one more win to even series
The Lions from Lausanne (Lausanne also, has the Lion on their crest)
took 3 minor penalties during the first period while ZSC only had 1
penalty on their books. The first period ended without a goal and an even shots on goal ratio.
3 minutes were played in the second period as Ryan Shannon ((Reto
Schäppi, Ryan Keller) scored the first time in the game. ZSC's Reto
Schäppi was then given a 2 minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct and
it didnt' take
Juha-Pekka Hytönen (Colby Genoway, John Gobbi) long to score
Lausanne's first goal of the night during the powerplay. 9 minutes later
Thomas Deruns scored the unassisted goal (38:18) to give Lausanne the
first lead of the game and they made it clear they wouldn't make it easy
for the Lions.
ZSC was now trailing Lausanne in the 3rd period and had trouble to
create the one chance that would bring the goal. But Lausanne was able
to carry the lead and won the game 1:2.
ZSC now has another chance to close the series in Lausanne this coming Saturday.
