Ingolstadt fights back from the 0-5 loss in game 1. Wolfsburg gets its 2nd win and Koeln wins in OT
Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg vs Nürnberg Ice Tigers 4-0 (Playoff 2-0)
After Game 1 everybody expected Nürnberg to fight back, but the Ice Tigers don’t seem to have the right recipe to crack the Grizzlies yet. Right from the start Wolfsburg was dominating the game and got its first goal through Tyler Haskins on the first power-play after 7 minutes. After this goal the Ice Tigers seemed to gain some self confidence, but 10 minutes later on the second power-play Wolfsburg scored the second time. This time it was the man Nürnberg is most afraid of, Sebastian Furchner. And 12 seconds before both teams had to return to the locker rooms for the first time Marco Rosa even added another goal on a nice breakaway combination with Matthew Dzieduszycki. 3-0 after the first period sounded like a decision for game 2 already and it was. Especially after Ramzi Abid’s 4-0 midway through the second period. Afterwards the Ice Tigers never found back into the game, but will have to find a way to shut down Tyler Haskins and Sebastian Furchner, who collected another three points against Nürnberg tonight, fort he next game in Nürnberg.
Kölner Haie vs Mannheim Adler 3-2 OT (Playoff 2-0)
The visitors in LanxessArena saw another really close match
between the two rivals. In an intense first period the only thing missing were
goals. But those should come in the second. First it was former Shark Kai
Hospelt, who scored on a power-play for Mannheim. At that moment the goal
seemed to be crucial, knowing that Game 1 was decided by a single goal in favor
of Köln. But the Sharks found a way to come back and turned the game around
before the second break. Andreas Falk and Rob Collins (with his second point of
the night) put Köln ahead. However, with 6 minutes to go in the last period Kai
Hospelt striked again to give his former club some overtime work to do.
The overtime started with two great scoring opportunities for the Sharks when
Dennis Endras saved shots of Gogulla and Stephens. A few minutes later the
referees had to review a shot of the Eagles, but it was not in. But finally
when everybody, who had to appear at work the next day, started to remember the
legendary 6th ovetime win of the Shark against Mannheim some years ago, Andreas
Falk scored again to givr Köln the 2-0 lead in the series.
ERC Ingolstadt vs Krefeld Pinguine 5-1 (Playoff 1-1)
After the bitter loss in Game 1 Ingolstadt was full of energy and could return the favor. Eddy Rinke-Leitans and John Laliberte scored in the first period to give the panthers a 2-0 lead. In a much calmer game than on Sunday Ingolstadt kept going. Travis Turnbull, Patrick Hager and Patrick Köppchen established a 5 goal margin, before Kevin Clark could at least break the shut out for Krefeld. Now both teams have scored 5 goals each in their home game and the series will start new in Krefeld as a Best-of-5.
Iserlohn Roosters vs Hamburg Freezers 3-0 (Playoff 1-1)
The Roosters proofed once again that the „Eishalle am Seilersee“ is one of the toughest places to have a road game. Iserlohn likes to come out flying at home and so they did tonight. After 1:15 minutes Hamburg had to go on the penalty kill for the first time and Iserlohn used the first opportunity right away. Jeffrey Giuliani brought the Roosters ahead. 2 minutes before the first break Christian Hommel could even double the score for the 10th placed team after regular season. Hamburg had trouble to fight back as they started to draw penalties. So Iserlohn managed to keep the lead and shortly before the game ended it was Brooks Macek who scored the final 3-0.
