Zurich gets back on track as they beat Lausanne in shootout
After the accident, a.k.a. the 4:1 home loss of the Lions, Zurich
urgently wanted to beat the statistics, which, according to blick.ch,
say a team that loses the
first game of a 1/4 final serie, loses the series in 74% of all
cases.
To zsclions.ch, coach Mark Crawford said "We've got a great team
who knows that It'll take a whole different performance". He believes
that his squad
would show a reaction to Tuesdays loss at home.
Who expected the guest from Zurich to go full throttle at the beginning
of game two was proven wrong once again as it was Lausanne's Juha-Pekka
Hytönen, assisted by Benjamin Antonietti who showed how to score an early goal.
Exactly 44 seconds into the game were played and the Lions found
themselves trailling the Lions from romand.
With the beginning of the second period ZSC's Mathias Seger scored the
equalising goal assisted by Mark Bastl and Dan Fritsche. It took another
20 minutes and the start of the 3rd period when Lausanne's Daniel Bang scored the second goal for his team. Then,
with a little more than a minute to go, a penalty was called that very
few times gets the attention. A deliberate incorrect player change
during the last 2 minutes of the game was called against Lausanne. The
head referee had no other choice than to give a penalty shot in this
situation, Robert Nilsson didn't hesitate and kept the hopes of the
Lions alive.
A 20 minute overtime didn't bring any conclusion on the winner and so a
shootout would decide. 6 rounds of shootout with Oliver Setzinger and
Colby Genoway on Lausanne's side and Marc-André Bergeron, Roman Wick and finally Robert Nilsson deciding he game on the side of the ZSC Lions scoring the goals.
