Despite a proud hockey tradition, Slovak teams are out of Europe’s elite league. The numbers explain why. Read more»
The ZSC Lions begin the series against Lausanne HC as a clear favourite in Zurich Oerlikon but fall short
Lausanne hadn't come to Zurich to be presented on a silver platter. Only 18!!! seconds into the game, Benjamin
Antonietti scored the first goal of the game and 7 minutes later Oliver
Setzinger doubled the score leaving the Lion perplex. But as
if that wasn't enough, Antonietti scored his second goal of the evening
to give the Romands a 3-0 lead, all goals scored were unassisted in this first period.
In the 33rd minute of the second period it was Zurich's Patrick Bärtschi
who scored the 1st goal on a powerplay for the Lions, assisted by
Severin Blindenbacher and with that, the second period ended without any further goals.
With 7 minutes left Lausanne's Daniel Bang scored the 4th goal of the
night, assisted by John Gobbi. This was also the end of the game and
many may have asked themselves who actually was the winner of the regular season.
We'll see
if this was just a lapse by the Lions or if in the end, Lausanne has an
actual chance of winning the best of 7 series.
