How good is Russia? Or maybe Norway isn’t good enough for the Elite division? The Russian team got a huge win against Norway in their first game of the 2014 World Junior Championship.
Eleven unanswered Russian goals and an easy win opened their 2014 WJC campaign. After only 6:37 Russia had a 3-0 lead after goals by Vyacheslav Osnovin, Nikita Zadorov and Damir Zhafyarov and forced the Norwegian coach Ørjan Løvdal to call a time-out.
Vadim Khlopotov and Mikhail Grigorenko also scored before the first intermission.
Russia continued with another five goals in the second period before Norway switched goalies. Henrik Haukeland had allowed 10 out of 27 shots. Joachim Svendsen who played the third period allowed only one goal of the seven shots he faced.
Russia also made a goaltending change. At 29:20 Ivan Nalimov (8 saves) replaced Andrei Vasilevski (7 saves).
Russia had three 2-goal scorers -- Anton Slepyshev, Nikita Zadorov and Vadim Khlopotov. The other five goals were scored by Mikhail Grigorenko, Nikita Tryamkin, Damir Zhafyarov, Vyacheslav Osnovin and Alexander Barabanov.
