The Sheffield Steelers have witnessed early season struggles, but all signs are pointing in the right direction for the Steelers

Coming into Wednesdays game against the Dundee Stars at Ice Sheffield, the Sheffield Steelers were winless at home in league games. They'd picked up wins in the Challenge Cup but their only league win came away in Edinburgh.

A completely different story for Dundee who seemingly can't stop winning, but they met a strong Steelers side that posed a strong third period come back to hand the Stars just their third loss of the year.

The opening 20 minutes of play came and went without any goals scored, despite the Steelers peppering Dan Bakala in the Stars net with 14 shots that period, compared to the Stars 8 shots.

Sheffield continued to outshoot the Stars but Dundee proved its the quality of the chances and not the quanitity when Sam McCluskey fired a shot past Frank Doyle at 36.10 to open the scoring and give the Stars a 1 - 0 lead.

The lead held firm until the midway part of the final period of play, but with Nico Sacchetti sat in the box for interference, Jeff Legue capitalised on the powerplay to draw level with 10 minutes to play.

Less than two minutes later the Steelers struck again, this time through Stefan Meyer with new arrival Nate DiCasmirro scoring his first point of for his new team with the secondary assist.

The final buzzer went and the Steelers grabbed their first home win of the season, outshooting Dundee 49 - 20 in the process.

Sheffield now move up to fifth place in the league ahead of their weekend visit to the Belfast Giants on Saturday before returning home to face the Cardiff Devils on Sunday.

Dundee remain top of the table with 14 points, but the Belfast Giants and Nottingham Panthers look threatening to catch them with 4 points separating them plus games in hand.
