Andrew Conboy had an eventful home debut for the Cardiff Devils, getting in two fights, the first of which coming less than a minute into the game against Esbjerg.
Later in the first period he got into his second scrap but it was what happened in the second period that has resulted in the 25 year old Americans one game suspension.
At 24:22 into the game, Conboy took a shot before getting into a confrontation with an opposing player when he headbutted the player and was given a match penalty by referee Tom Darnell.
The suspension means Conboy will miss Wednesday nights game against the Coventry Blaze. League officials reviewed the footage and presented their findings today. On the EIHLs official website head of discipline Moray Hanson said this “In a normal Elite League game a heavy ban would be implemented. But with this being a pre-season friendly against foreign opposition, the ruling is different and the normal suspension tariffs do not apply. Therefore, the match penalty as assessed by the referee will stand, but no further action can be taken.”
The Cardiff Devils lost the game 4 – 3 to Esbjerg from the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen.
This isn’t the first bit of trouble Conboy has faced in his career, while playing for Michigan State University in 2009, Conboy and teammate Corey Tropp were suspended for the rest of the season after they attacked Steven Kampfer of the University of Michigan with less than a minute left in the game.
