Prestigious U18 tournament on it’s way
The Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup is currently played in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, probably the most prestigious U18 international tournament after the World Championship is being played right now in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.
After two days of play Switzerland a bit surprising leads group A after a chocking Sweden in the opener 3-2 and losing to the Czech hosts after a shootout. Sweden bounced back after the loss and won 4-3 against Canada in the second game. Canada who won their first game against the Czechs 4-0. The Czechs will now have to beat Sweden to avoid last place and qualify for semifinals while Canada and Switzerland also will play in a decisive game.
In group B Finland leads after a shootout win against the USA and an easy 5-1 win against Slovakia, Slovakia who is already out of the tournament after two straight losses. Russia opened with a 2-1 win against Slovakia but lost 2-4 to USA and needs to beat Finland in the last game of the group stage to qualify for the next round.
