This afternoon Krefeld, Berlin and big outsiders Wolfsburg all followed Cologne into the next round of the DEL playoffs by defeating their quarterfinal opponents in six games.
DEL playoff quarterfinals, game 6
Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg (10) - Adler Mannheim (7) 4-3
The outsiders from Wolfsburg made the huge surprise perfect when they defeated regular season winners Mannheim also in game #6 to throw them out of competition already in the first round of the playoffs. Greg Moore brought the hosts in front after less than 10 minutes in power play before the guests from Mannheim turned the result around completely using their huge plus in opportunities before the first intermission through goals by Christoph Ullmann and Yanick Lehoux. In the middle period Aleksander Polaczek and Vincenz Mayer gave the lead back to Wolfsburg. Still Mannheim gave not up and scored the equalizer through Frank Mauer at 45:15. Just three minutes later though Aaron Brocklehurst made it 4-3 for Wolfsburg which was enough in the end as the guests failed to score with an additional attacker on the ice instead of their goalie Dennis Endras.
Wolfsburg won the series 4-2
ERC Ingolstadt (6) - Krefeld Pinguine (3) 2-7
It seemed to become a good day for Ingolstadt when Thomas Greilinger and Derek Hahn turned around the early guest lead by Kevin Clark. The middle period though turned out to be a nightmare for the Bavarian hosts. Daniel Pietta, Francois Méthot, Boris Blank, Tomas Kurka and Kevin Clark with his second strike in this match needed just five minutes to score as many goals and to get a comfortable 6-2 lead. In the last 20 minutes Krefeld defended relatively their advantage relatively easily and Daniel Pietta even scored the 7th goal for them.
Krefeld won the series 4-2
Hamburg Freezers (5) - Eisbären Berlin (4) 2-3
In an even match the guests from Berlin pathed the way for their semifinal qualification in the middle period with goals by Barry Tallackson, André Rankel and Tyson Mulock. For Hamburg Thomas Dolak and Brandon Reid only were able to cut the lead by the Polar Bears to one. Goalie Niklas Treutle stayed on the bench for more than the last one and a half minutes but the home side couldn't force the equalizer anymore.
