Current EBEL champions will play in this season's semifinals after all. In game 7 they outplayed the visitors of Villach, shades in play were decisive.
Linz - Villach 4:3 (Linz won series 4-3)
Although losing in the series 3-1 at the certain point, Villach managed to get Linz to game 7, though couldn't turn the series in their favor. Game seven played in Linz went on the home side.
The visitiors opened the scoring with an early goal from Hotham, but soon after Hedlund and Baumgartner stroke back and in the 8th minute it was 2:1 in favor of the champs.
Before the first intermission Hughes scored to tie the game. In the second period Linz are ahead two goals owing to Lebler's and Murphy's goals.
By the beginning of the final period, Hotham reduced the lead with his second of the night and Villach went on offense to stay alive. Even though they hit the bar and were playing 6-on-3 in the very end, they weren't successful.
