Sweden’s first win of the season
15 Dec 2012 | Fredrik Pålsson
After four consecutive losses in the Euro Hockey Tour Sweden today beat Finland 4-1.
After the worst start to the season in the history of EHT Sweden finally won when they defeated Finland today 4-1. Sweden started good and had a 2-0 lead after five minutes. First Fredrik Pettersson made it 1-0 on a rebound and less than two minutes later Niklas Persson made it 2-0 after a face off in offensive zone.
After that Sweden focused on defence and could take a solid 4-1 win even if Finland reduced Sweden's lead in the third period when Mikko Mäenpää scored on the power play. But Nicklas Danielsson secured the win for Sweden when he made it 3-1 with 2:07 left to play. Victor Hedman scored the last goal on the empty net.
Sweden's head coach Pär Mårts was pleased with the win but not with the game, "We have waited for this win for a long time" he told TV10. "But today it was no fantastic game. We don't help each other, we skate one and one on our own. But we played more wise on defence today and came out from the game with a good result".
Tomorrow the Channel One Cup will finish with games between Sweden and Czech Republic, and Russia and Finland.
