The favourites from the Austrian capital earned their first win in Hala Tivoli in one and a half years

The Vienna Capitals started with a lot of pressure and self-confidence after a so far really good European Trophy campaign into the EBEL season opener at Hala Tivoli in Ljubljana. In the second minute Jamie Fraser hit only the goal post. In the fifth minutes Ziga Pance made it better on the other side and brought Olimpija in front when he converted an early power play. The guests continued with their efforts despite the early goal against and they were rewarded with the turn-around in the match with goals by Jonathan Ferland from the long distance and Andre Lakos (PP) to make it 1-2 even before the first intermission. In the 31st minute a blue line shot by Francois Fortier was deflected into the net by Benoit Gratton to extend the Vienna lead to two. Gratton also set the final point behind the match with his empty netter in the 59th minute.
