The Second Divison - Group B U18 World Championships are currently under way in Novi Sad, Serbia. But the attention of the hockey fans is wide away from the ice.
The head coach of the Serbian U18 national team, Alex Andjelic, 71, had been physically attacked during the first intermission of the game against Spain. The aggressor's name is Mile Dragic, controversial gunrunner and father of Sreta Dragic, a player of the team. The reason behind the attack is the low ice-time Andjelic granted to Sreta Dragic.
Mile Dragic already threatened the coach during the game against Iceland.
Andjelic immediately left the team, that is now led by the two assistant coaches, saying he feels "embittered by the whole story. Most of all, by the fact that, after the aggression, no-one came to help me, expect for the team's doctor. Everybody else in the room just turned their heads and pretended it was ok".
The Serbian national team is currently third in the
standings with six points tied with Iceland, after Estonia (11) and Spain (8). Australia is in fifth position with four points, China closes the standings with one point and is already relegated.
