HK Nitra to the relegation battle

After a three-game losing streak before the national team break HC Kosice won all the next four games. They are now 9 points ahead of second HK 36 Skalica and with a great prospect to win the regular season. It seems like no one wants to be the second, both HK 36 Skalica and HC Slovan Bratislava are losing games, so there is a chance for HK Poprad to catch them up. First four teams for quarterfinal play-off are clear, it depends only on places after regular season. The ninth MHC Martin still has a chance to qualify for the play-offs and they are definitively saved for next season. Only 4 rounds remain to be played and they have now a 13 point-distance towards last team HK Nitra. HK Nitra will be definitely last and probably will play the relegation battle with the winner of the 1.liga. It depends on the winner, cause there are 4 teams left in the 1.liga play-off (Piestany, Senica, Michalovce and Bardejov). Winner of the regular season Bardejov is affiliated to HC Kosice and if this team will win the 1.liga play-offs, relegation matches will be cancelled due to the fact that affiliated teams can´t be promoted to Slovak extraliga.

Highlights of the week:
- after 3 lost games last week HC Kosice won the next 4 in a row
- HC Slovan Bratislava lost 3 games in a row
- hattrick´s by Stanislav Gron (Kosice - Zvolen 9:3) and Zigmund Palffy (Skalica - Nitra 6:5)
- HK Nitra goes to the relegation battle
