American sweeps Slovakia and grabs second consecutive title in Piestany tournament
Host Slovakia and US arrive with same perfect record at final tournament game, but in last 60 minutes American proves to be the best team at all, destroying opponent with a meaningful 8-3 (4-0,3-0,1-3), as honestly admits Slovak coach Ernest Bokros: 'Any coach should repent this result. But on the other hand, I can recognize the quality of our opponent: the Americans were better in all aspects and deservedly won. We played two games against equal opponents (Germany and Switzerland), but USA were definitely superior. We can be proud to be the only team able to score three goals against them.'
With a goal and three assists in final game, forward Evan Allen finishes as tournament top scorer, amassing 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists).
"I'm very proud of how our guys played against tough competition," said US head coach Don Granato. "It's an honor to represent USA Hockey in every tournament, but coming home with a title makes it extra special."
