New feature in 2.liga: „Live boards“
Broken glass lets participants of a 2. Liga game in Czech Republic become inventive
During a Czech republic’s 3rd level league game between Uherské Hradiště and Havířov a strange
situation occurred. A big hit on defender Pavel Kříž during the last period broke the boards' glass in
Havířov’s defending zone. Because the on-arena technicians had prepared no reserve-glass, the
teams was inventive with an emergency solution: The substitute-goalie of Havířov jammed the whole with
an old table.
The incident happened two minutes before the last horn. „I have not seen anything like this for
years,“ told Martin Potočný, a playing-GM of Havířov to iDnes.cz.
„The technicians told us they have no reserve glass, but that they can cut one. Regarding their words
it would take an hour. Both teams did not like it. But our forward Michal Sztefek found a solution.
He came with an old unused table, so our reserver goalie took it and jammed the whole in the
boards,“ Potočný said.
Surprisingly, the referees agreed with the workaround-solution and the game was finished. If you
are curious why Havířov was so interested in fixing the glass by any means, here is a reason:
Havířov is the second in the league standings, three points behind league leader Karviná. In the
time of incident the score was 2-3 and Havířov was really motivated in bringing the game to an end.
Lukáš Daneček has become the first-ever „live board“ in the ice-hockey’s history. „He was
scared of the possibility that the puck would hit him in his face so he took on his mask,“ Potočný said.
We all laughed, but someone in the national hockey federation should take it seriously. This incident
shows up in what conditions we are playing the game over there. The facilities of the arena in
Uherské Hradiště are running under deplorable conditions,“ he added.
