The neighbors and quarter final losers Czech Republic and Slovakia played for the fifth place at the World Juniors. The Czechs win thanks to a strong first period.
Just like in last year's World Juniors the Czechs beat the Slovaks 5-2 in the final appearance for the teams. But this season was a small step forwards. Last season the game was in the Relegation Round for place 7-8, this year they played for the 5th/6th place.
Radek Faksa, Petr Holik and Vojtech Mozik all scored in the first period to give the Czech Republic a secure lead.
Milos Bubela gave the Slovak some hope at 34:17 when he made it 1-3, but it took only to minutes before Dominik Uher could restore the Czech 3-goal lead. After the 4-1 goal Slovakia switched goalies. Juraj Simboch out - Richard Sabol in.
In the third period Tomas Filippi scored 5-1 on a power play. Slovakia shot 17 shots at the Czech goalie Petr Mrazek in the third but only beat him once; at 46:24 when Matus Chovan made it 5-2.
