Game recap

Cardiff Devils survived a scare in Kirkcaldy but finished their Scottish road trip with a win, beating Fife Flyers after a wild night at Fife Ice Arena.

The Devils built a three-goal lead by the midway point but saw that advantage cut to one by the end of the second period before pulling away again in the third.

Kohen Olischefski opened the scoring inside five minutes when he finished off a pass from Brett Ferguson. Captain Joey Martin doubled the lead at 15:30 with a shot through traffic to put Cardiff in control.

“I think it was good. We started well and then credit to Fife who pushed back and really got on us in the second,” said Ferguson.

Jimmy Oligny made it 3-0 at 29:55, but Fife responded strongly. Giordano Finoro pulled one back at 36:07, and Garet Hunt was left alone in front to make it 3-2 at 37:45, giving the Flyers real momentum heading into the intermission.

The Devils answered emphatically in the third. Kristoff Kontos, Ryan Barrow and Cole Sanford all struck within a little over four minutes to restore a commanding cushion. Ferguson then netted his first goal for Cardiff with 7:33 left, before Olischefski rounded off the scoring inside the final four minutes.

“Our goal in the third was to get the next one, and then fortunately we were able to get a few more insurance goals,” added Ferguson, who finished with a goal and four assists. “It was important for us to get the win. We all know a win in November is the same as a win in March, and we didn’t get the last two, so it was very important for us to get one here tonight.”
