Metallurg Magnitogorsk secured a thrilling 5-3 victory over Salavat Yulaev Ufa in front of a home crowd of 7,140 at the Arena Metallurg. The game showcased a dynamic performance from the hosts, including standout displays from Alexander Petunin and Egor Korobkin, both of whom netted twice. Despite Salavat Yulaev's late push, they couldn't fully close the gap.
The first period was controlled by Metallurg, who dominated possession and created multiple scoring chances. Despite three failed power-play opportunities, they finally broke through in even strength at 17:13. Egor Yakovlev fed Dmitry Silantyev, who found the net to give Metallurg a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The second period was action-packed, with Metallurg pulling ahead decisively. Petunin scored his first of two goals at 24:51, converting a chaotic play near the crease. Minutes later, he batted the puck mid-air to score again at 27:02, stunning Salavat Yulaev's Semen Vyazovoy, who was then replaced by Alexander Samonov. Metallurg extended their lead to 4-0 when Korobkin deflected Robin Press's shot into the net at 30:16.
Salavat Yulaev responded with a power-play goal at 36:01, as Sheldon Rempal pounced on a loose puck in front of the net to make it 4-1. Just before the second period ended, Mikhail Naumenkov's shot took a lucky deflection off a Metallurg defender, pulling Salavat Yulaev closer at 4-2.
The third period saw Salavat Yulaev's momentum grow, especially after Joshua Leivo scored another power-play goal at 48:02, narrowing the score to 4-3. The pressure intensified as Salavat Yulaev pushed for the equalizer. However, their hopes were dashed when Korobkin scored his second goal into an empty net at 59:42, securing Metallurg's 5-3 victory.
