Guildford Flames' excellent week on the road continued with a 6-2 win in Dundee over the Stars on Saturday night.
"That was a great game, through and through. We had a little bit of bus legs off the beginning I think, a bit of a slow start but we responded right away and just rolled from there," said Flames goalie Eamon McAdam. "We’re on a good little run here, the past few weeks. We weren’t getting the results in the beginning but it seems like we’re really starting to click here and it’s really a sign of good things"
Dundee opened the scoring in a fast paced opening period, with Drydn Dow sending a shot from the blue line through traffic that beat Eamon McAdam at 14:50. Daniel Tedesco equalised almost instantly at 15:07 for the Flames, as his wrist shot off the rush found its way past Richard Sabol to make it 1-1.
Guildford gained their first lead of the night through Daniel Catenacci less than two minutes later at 16:31. After an initial shot from the visitors narrowly hit the post of the Stars’ net, Catenacci found the rebound and put it past Sabol to give the Flames a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.
The Stars started the second period strong, maintaining consistent pressure and testing McAdam with numerous high danger chances.
Despite this, Guildford scored the only goal of the period, with Daniel Catenacci giving the visitors a two goal lead on the power-play with his second of the game and third in his last two games. Charlie Curti sent the puck towards the net, which found Catenacci in the slot who redirected it past Sabol at 25:36.
"“I think it’s a confidence thing as much as any, we really struggled with that this year, really kind of finishing games when we have leads and really putting teams out of it," added McAdam, on his team building a lead out. "I think a little bit of confidence that we’ve done it now a few times and we’re in the mindset we can really start to roll over teams on that.”
Three goals in under eight minutes put the game to bed for the Flames. Ryan Tait made it 4-1 at 43:51, followed by Charlie Dodero extending the lead just under four minutes later. Lewis Hook put six on the board for the Flames with 8:50 to go, though Kameron Kielly pulled one back for the Stars with just over seven minutes to play.
That was, however, as close as the Stars got to a comeback as the Flames skated away with the well-earned points, their second road win of the week. "It’s great timing, you really want to find your game this time of year, it’s essential to get on a roll and be feeling good going into the playoffs. Obviously we had a bit of a rough stretch there but two in a row here against two good teams and hopefully we can keep rolling again tomorrow” concluded McAdam.
