Game recap

Fife celebrated their first ofur-point win of the 2021/22 Premier Sports Elite League season, backing up a home win over Guildford with a two-goal road victory in Nottingham.

The Flyers took the lead on the three-minute mark, breaking 2-on-1 - Jacob Benson had the initial shot and follow up before Craig Peacock bundled the loose puck of the line. With Taylor Doherty sitting for elbowing, Michael McNicholas was the unmarked beneficiary of an excellent Matt Carter feed to double the Flyers' lead with 14:34 played.

In period two, the Panthers came back into things and had the much better offensive zone chances. However, Bari McKenzie could have put the visitors three up but completely missed the target when through 1-on-0. That miss came back to haunt the Flyers when Aaron Thow got his first of the season for the Panthers at 25:39, and then Josh Tetlow joined the rush to finish off an excellent pass from Brady Norrish to tie things up 1:58 before the end of the period.

After the Flyers killed off a penalty on Michael McNicholas penalty, the Flyers powerplay unit set to work and put the visitors back ahead - Jonas Emmerdahl not getting full power behind his shot, but enough for it to loop past Kevin Carr at 46:28.

Shane Owen pulled off a great save to deny Norrish's backhanded effort with just over 11 minutes to go.With Owen still denying the Panthers into the final two minutes of the game, Carr was pulled for the extra attacker. Following a timeout, the Panthers couldn't keep the puck in the offensive zone, and it eventually broke kindly to Caron Stadnyk for the empty net goal from halfway with 60 seconds left.
