Game recap

Dundee Stars produced a stunning seven-goal performance against the Guildford Flames to secure their first victory in the Premier Sports Elite League.

Dundee started the opening period on the front foot and Charlie Combs came close to making the pressure pay, firing a vicious shot off the post. The Stars then took a deserved lead at 8:38. Kris Inglis shot from the point and the puck ricocheted into the air before eventually bouncing in off the head of Connor Sills.

The Flames - making their first long trip to Scotland of the season - found their rhythm halfway through the first and Ian McNulty forced Adam Morrison into a great double save. Alex Yuill then hammered a shot from the blue line which was bravely blocked by Markus Kankaanpera.

Guildford would go on to rue those missed chances as the Stars doubled their lead on 16:46. Gabriel Desjardins picked up a loose puck in the offensive zone and shot low past Kevin Lindskoug’s outstretched glove.

The home side started the middle period with an impressive penalty kill and then scored their third of the game after 5:23. Combs rounded the net and passed across the crease for Kyle Haas to poke into the empty net, his second goal of the season. The Stars and Flames exchanged powerplays but some more impressive penalty killing from both sides ensured it remained 3-0 to the hosts going into the third.
