Game recap

Guildford and Glasgow will start with the Clan a goal ahead tomorrow in Scotland, after the Flames fought back from three down after 40 minutes at the Spectrum.

The Clan got off to a great start, just 31 seconds on the clock when Scott Pitt opened the scoring as the Clan pounced on a bad turnover by the Flames in their own zone. A Rasmus Bjerrum slapshot at 18:59 doubled the visitors’ lead with 61 seconds left in the opening period to put his side in a strong position.

That advantage became three 4:08 into period two, some pressure around the Flames’ net eventually saw Gerard Hanson poke home the rebound.

Down by two with one period of their home leg to go, the Flames needed something to get them back into the overall tie. The breakthrough goal came at 44:32 when Jesse Craig patiently waited before picking his spot from the faceoff point to the right of Joel Rumpel. The noise level at the Spectrum went up another notch 2:03 later when Ian Watters pounced on a pass from behind the net to score and bring it back to a one-goal game.

The Flames had some decent chances in the final minutes, but were unable to force an equaliser – they’ll need to get one more than the Clan tomorrow to get back level in the series.
