Game recap

Nottingham will play at least one more game this season after coming out on the top their ‘winner takes all’ encounter with Fife.

In a game of few goals that was tied from the night before, it was the Panthers that got the crucial opener – on the powerplay, and with Shane Owens unsure where the puck was, Alex Guptill worked the puck eventually to Dylan Richard to slot into the empty net with 5:11 played. Chris Stewart hit the post shortly before the break in the period’s other best chance.

Shane Owen kept things a one-goal game late in period two when he saved low with his pad to deny Brett Perlini, as the second ended without a goal and the Panthers still leading by one.

The Flyers soaked up a fair amount of Panthers’ pressure for most of the final period, but in having done so were able to try a final charge at tying the score in the last five minutes. They were however unable to get any real quality chances, and with the clock ticking down Head Coach Todd Dutiaume opted to pull Shane Owen for the extra skater.

The gamble backfired however, as Dylan Richard found the empty net from his own zone to double the Panthers’ lead with two minutes to play. Some extra gloss was added to the final scoreline when Robert Farmer finished after an unselfish pass from Chris Stewart at 58:38.

The Panthers took the three-goal win on the night and on aggregate to book their place in the Playoff Finals Weekend.
