Coventry handed Manchester their eleventh and ultimately deadliest home defeat of the season to confirm their place in this season’s playoffs and end the Storm’s season.

Facing a side with the third-best home record in the league, the Blaze got off to an excellent start when Tim Crowder gave them the lead from close range after just over three minutes. Luke Ferrera’s wrist shot beating Matt Ginn from just past the blue line at 11:45 on the powerplay put the visitors into a good early lead, although they were pegged back to just a one-goal advantage at 14:53 when Luke Moffatt’s move allowed him to beat Matt Hackett high.

Coventry needed only a little over three minutes of period two however to go back to ahead as a 2-on-1 allowed Tim Crowder and Shawn Pauly to combine, the former moving Ginn to one side before passing to the latter to finish into a gaping goal.

Manchester needed a route back into the game, and had arguably their best chance to do just that when Evan Richardson couldn’t quite manage to knock the puck into a half-empty net from close range thanks to some last-ditch Blaze defending.

The Storm tried to find a way past Hackett in the third period but were coming up short – and their fate was sealed when Kevin Morris found the empty net at 57:44 to send the travelling Blaze fans wild as their team booked their place in the post-season. The Storm bow out with 59 points from 60 games.
