Game recap

In what their Head Coach Ryan Finnerty described as a ‘Game 7’, Manchester Storm scored two goals inside the last ten minutes to edge past Sheffield and go back into the playoff places.

Luke Moffatt gave the home side the lead after 80 seconds, but that was cancelled out at 4:05 by Eric Neiley for the Steelers who then took the lead themselves 58 seconds later through Evan McGrath. Ciaran Long tied the game up at two each just past the 13 minute mark as the sides headed into the first break level.

Moffatt needed 112 seconds to put the Storm back in the lead at the beginning of period two, an advantage that they held through to 40 minutes. With 27 seconds played in the third Tom Zanoski tied the game up, and then Jonathan Phillips put the visitors back ahead at 44:43. The home side were however to turn the game around inside the last ten minutes with two powerplay goals – first Long grabbing his second of the night at 53:14, and then Mike Hammond firing a wrist-shot through traffic on a 5-on-3 with what proved to be the game winner goal at 57:37.

The win lifts the Storm into the playoff place, level however on points with Coventry, while the Steelers stay four points clear.
