Belarus Hockey Federation announced a three-year contract with the Finnish coach.
Today the Belarusian Hockey Federation announced Finnish Kari Heikkila as new national team head coach. Hekkila signed a three-year contract and will be presented on August 17 during an official press conference in Minsk.
The 51 years old Kangasala native, Heikkila headed top teams as HPK, Kärpät - where he was champion in 2003-04 - and Espoo Blues in native Finland. In 2004 he was the first ever Finnish coach in the Russian league, when he accepted a coach position at Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, when he came back in 2007 he reached the playoffs finals twice.Last season he was on the Metallurg Magnitogorsk bench.
Belarus Federation chairman Evgeny Vorsin declared: 'We are pleased that the national team will be led by such authority. The signing of the contract was preceded by a lengthy negotiation process, which ended by mutual agreement'.
