27 Jul 2011 | Henrik Lundqvist
Thirteen Russians, four Czechs, three Finns and one from Slovakia, Canada, Latvia and Sweden. Here are the 2011/12 KHL head coaches.
The KHL season 2011/12 starts with Russian head coaches on 13 of the 24 teams. 2011 champion Salavat gets back their previous coach Sergei Mikhalev, who worked as GM of Lada Togliatti last season.
There are four Czech and three Finnish coaches in the league, even though there still are no teams from those countries participating.
Of the Czech coaches, Marek Sykora and Milos Riha have experience coaching in the KHL before while Radim Rulik, who will coach the new Slovak team HC LEV, and Avangard's Rostilav Cada are new in the league.
The three Finnish coaches are all experienced and very well known in their home country. Read more about them in the article
KHL, a Finnish coaches colony by Davide Tuniz.
There are also four well-known coaches from other countries: Julius Supler of Slovakia who coached Dinamo Riga the last three seasons, Canada's Brad McCrimmon with many years experience as assistant coach in NHL, the Latvian Olegs Znaroks who remains in Dynamo Moskva and former Team Sweden head coach Bengt-Åke Gustafsson.
Who has to leave his duties first, and how many will get to keep their job for the entire season remains to see.
