Finland take Gold medal
In a game dominated by special teams and controversial refereeing decisions Finland got revenge for last years defeat to win the Gold medal game at this years World Championships.
In the seventh minute of overtime Chabot took a controversial tripping minor and from the resulting four on three play SAKARI MANNINEN won the game for Finland in overtime
After a tight end to end, goalless, first period
Canada took advantage of and ruined Finland’s 100% penalty kill
when DYLAN COZENS collected a cross ice pass from Barzal to rifle the puck home past Jussi
Olkinuora in the Finnish net. Despite pressure on the Canadian goal the score
stayed the same after two periods with Finland out shooting Canada thus far.
In the third period GRANLUND had put Finland
ahead after converting his second powerplay goal at 45.57, just a minute
earlier on a 5 on 3 play he had leveled the scores.
Things looked all over for Canada when JOEL ARMIA made it three directly from a face off with
just six minutes left.
However with just over two minutes to go Canada pulled the netminder and WHITECLOUD cut the deficit to one. Then
at 58.36 COMTOIS tied things up and sent the game to overtime.
