Norway takes a huge step towards the quarter finals

In the first game of the qualifying round Norway beat Switzerland 3-2 and Mathis Olimb continues to collect points.

Mathis Olimb, who leads the World Championship in scoring with one goal and eight assists was not as outstanding as in the previous games, but still got two assists and was close to score when the Swiss goalie was pulled in the final minute, but Luca Sbisa stopped him.

The Swiss goalie Tobias Stephan left the net with 58 seconds in a last attempt to tie the game, but Norway got away with 3 very important points.

Norway took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Jonas Holøs scored the first goal at 8:47 and Per-Åge Skrøder the second with only 5 seconds remaining of the period.

The second period was more intense and physical than the first. On the fourth Swiss power-play of the night Thibaut Monnet scored 2-1 from the left circle.

In the third minute of the last period Norway scored its third goal. Hard work by Marius Holtet created the chance for Forsberg who picked up the puck and put it in a wide open net.

The second Swiss goal was also scored with one man more on the ice. Diaz shot 3-2 from the blue-line. Not the hardest shot, but Haugen couldn’t see the puck.

Switzerland out-shot Norway 41-25 but once again Lars Haugen in the Norwegian net had a good game.
