The President of the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation (LHF) and former Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis in an interview with Latvian Television reported by Delfi, expressed concern about the readiness of the infrastructure for the 2021 World Championship.

The World Championship will be held fin Riga from May 21 to June 6. Most of the games will be held in Arena Riga - at the moment is the only arena completely ready for the tournament. The second group matches will be held at the neighboring Olympic Sports Center, where construction works are currently underway. The teams' trainings should take place in the ice hall of the Daugava stadium, which was supposed to be put into operation on March 17th but is still under major works.

"We are worried about the situation around the Daugava, because it had to be commissioned 17 March. - said Kalvitis -  Currently, we do not see that there was ice. Every week they promise us that the ice is about to start pouring, but the hall has not yet been put into operation. The works in the Olympic Sports Center began more than a week back. We hope that everyone there will cope with their duties. "

Kalvitis also expressed outrage that the players of the Latvian national team will not receive vaccines against Covid-19 before the start of the tournament, so the national team on home soil will have to face health risks.

“We applied for vaccines on time. According to our plan, they should have been made in early March so that the hockey players received both doses before exercise. Vaccines were not provided to us, - Kalvitis was indignant. - Now each player will pose a risk for the team. Unfortunately , let's play it as it is. Let's hope we can protect our players from Covid-19. "
