CHRISTMAS UPDATE OF THE EIHL
The EIHL in the UK is half way through its league games, and Cardiff Devils lead the pack.
This season is shaping up to be one of the most wide open
of the past few seasons. It seems that, on their day, any team can beat anyone
be they at the top or bottom of the standings.
Although this may seem a cliché the new sides – Guilford
Flames and Milton Keynes Lightning seem to have made a great impact in their
first season after stepping up a league from the old English Premier League.
Indeed, Guildford Flames lay in third place in the league
four wins away from leaders Cardiff Devils who are on a winning streak of
eleven games.
The Belfast Giants are in second spot six points behind
the leaders, but they do have a month of almost all home games to come against
their rivals Cardiff and Sheffield Steelers.
The Sheffield Steelers are fourth, having been in sixth
place only a day ago but due to back to back shutout wins at near neighbours
Nottingham Panthers they have climbed the table and are now on a winning streak
of four games if you count the Challenge Cup game.

They are level on points with former league leaders
Manchester Storm who are also on a winning streak of three games at the moment.
However, after having done so well in the Champions Hockey league the Nottingham Panthers have hit a rough patch losing seven games
consecutively and are currently just five points clear of the play off spot.
Edinburgh Capitals are currently propping up the table a
full thirteen points behind the other Scottish side Dundee Stars who, already
short on numbers have today lost the services of forward Justin Fox.
