EIHL & Sheffield Steelers monthly update.
The season is two months in now but Sheffield Steelers, because of the Challenge Cup, only began the defence of their title at the start of October.
On Saturday Sheffield Steelers completed their group games
in the Challenge Cup when they played Coventry Blaze. They now top the group
after thumping the Blaze nine goals to five. (video)
Their league campaign only began at the beginning of the
month when they took on the conference winners Braehead Clan. They were the
victors in this game (video)
by two clear goals and this started the Steelers on a streak of five wins which
came to an end at home to Cardiff Devils (video) when they were
on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline.
However, the following week they returned to winning ways
when they won back to back games against the Fife Flyers. The week after they
travelled to Coventry for the
second game of the weekend, this time in the league, and were victorious by six
goals to one.
Due to this they are now up to third place in the league and
have played four games less than the current leaders Cardiff Devils who are top
with nineteen points.
One of the most disturbing things about the start to the season,
is the amount of goals they have conceded: an average of four each game, even
though they have won the majority of the games.
The league as a whole has settled into the usual pattern of
teams at the top but perhaps the surprise is that last years conference
winners, Braehead Clan are down in seventh place having played more games than
any other team.
