Switzerland is out from the World after an entertaining game
It was a hard task for the Swiss, a very hard one: three points were desperately needed to reach the quarterfinals and knock Denmark out. But the opponent was a very tough one, the Czech Republic: and, given the performances delivered by Switzerland so far, it was an almost desperate attempt.
Still, Denis Hollenstein scored first for the Eisgenossen assisted by Sven Andrighetto and Reto Schäppi, giving Swiss hearts surely some relief: but the effective Czech offensive line didn't waste time, and the equalizer came soon with a "three Michal effort": that is, a goal by Michal Birner, assistedn by Michal Kempny and Michal Repik. Then, during the second period, Raphael Diaz committed hooking, with a penalty shoot thus awarded to the Czechs which gave them a 2-1 lead thanks to Lukas Kaspar.
The third period was the craziest one: Martin Zatovic scored almost immediately, but Simon Moser shortened the distance with a temporary 3-2 on powerplay; Tomas Zohorna scored shortly thereafter, and the Czechs were against in advantage. Reto Berra was thus put out from the ice, and Czechia managed to score short-handed in an empty net with Michal Jordan. Noah Schneeberger scored again for Switzerland with less than 5 minutes to go, and then Berra came out again. The last goal, by Sven Andrighetto, came 26 seconds before the end of the game, but was practically useless: Switzerland did its best, but its now out from the World, while the Czech Republic will meet Team USA in the quarters next Thursday.
