EIHL update
The Sheffield Steelers of the EIHL jumped to within two points of leaders Cardiff Devils with a hard fought victory in the small confines of Altrincham rink over Manchester Storm.
The hosts went ahead quickly on the power
play as Grant Toulmin met a pass from Vinny Scarsella to put the play off
chasing team in the lead.
But the first of two on the night from top
scorer and franchise player Jeff Legue; and then a short handed effort within
eight minutes by Frederik Vestberg put the visitors in front.
They extended their lead to make it 1-3
just four minutes into the second when young Luke Ferrara scored after being
set up by Vestberg.
Then came a fight back by Manchester. Roared on by fanatical fans they
evened the tie with two goals from second top EIHL scorer Matt Sisca, the
second being on the powerplay as ill-discipline began to play a part.
This lack of discipline was to play a big
part in Sheffield’s winner. When Manchester’s player coach
Omar Pascha joined Scarsella in the penalty box Manchester was in disarray. During the
resulting powerplay, Legue netted his second, and the game winner, with under two
minutes remaining.
Sheffield now face leaders Cardiff
twice at the weekend which could define the whereabouts of each teams title
hopes.
