Denmark beat Italy 4-1 to earn the first win of the 2014 World Championship in Minsk.

A Danish loss today and they would really have been in trouble in Group A of the World Championship. But the win today was in the end quite easy. Denmark outshot Italy 31-13.

It took less than three minutes for Denmark to get the lead. Jesper Jensen beat Daniel Bellissimo on a rebound. Diego Kostner tied it with the only Italian goal of the day at 12:15.

One of the Danish NHL players - Jannik Hansen of Vancouver Canucks - made it 2-1 for Denmark while playing shorthanded.

Emil Kristensen's 3-1 goal only 29 seconds later killed the game. The veteran Kim Staal added an empty net goal to secure the first Danish win in Minsk.

Both teams will have a difficult task in the next game. Italy will play Czech Republic tomorrow. Denmark's next game is on Thursday against Russia.
