MOL League Finals preview
08 Mar 2014 | Szabolcs Závodszky
This years MOL League finals will be filled with firsts
For the first time in since 2010-2011 season the MOL will not be won by DAB.Docler. The back to back defending champions were eliminated in the semi finals by Brasov. This will also be the first finals appearance for both Brasov and Nové Zámky and the first time since the inaugural season with no Hungarian team competing for the title, with Nové Zámky coming from Slovakia and Brasov hailing from Romania. By reaching the championships for both teams this will be the best finished they have had in the league, for both fourth place was the best they have ever finished.
Both teams look to be playing their best hockey of the season, Nové Zámky started the season great but as the season went on they hit a bit of a bump but their playoff participation was never really in question during the regular season.
On the other side after missing the playoffs on the last day of the the previous season Brasov was determined to qualify. The team started the season strong but they had some self admitted internal issues that saw head coach Greg Lindqvist get replaced and team captain Josh Bonar transfer to a club in Kazakhstan. Current coach Kari Rauhanen has brought back Lindqvist as an assistant and the team made a nice little run at the end of the season to make the playoffs and to upset the top seeded DAB.
Both teams are aware that this could be a long, fought out seven game series.
