While Canada celebrated an easy win over Fribourg-Gottéron, hosts HC Davos won an exciting match against HC Vítkovice.

In the first semifinal on Sunday Team Canada beat Fribourg-Gottéron easily with 5-1. Jason Spezza used a power play opportunity to open the score for the Canadians at 16:32. The lead was doubled at the start of the second period through Marc-Antoine Pouliot. When Canada received a two-minute team peanlty that was served by Jacob Micflikier, this lead to the following two goals. First Matt Duchene scored the 3-0 shorthanded at 36:05 before Joel Kiwatkowski answered for Fribourg 24 seconds later in the very same power play. During the end of regulation Benjamin Conz came in as Fribourg goalie for Cory Schneider but he couldn't avoid the 5-1 through Matt Duchene at 54:34.

It was the expected close game between Vítkovice and Davos in the second semifinal of the tournament with the better end for the Swiss hosts. Patrick Kane brought Davos in front at 11:48 before Lukas Klimek and Tomas Kudelka turned the game around completely in favour of Vìtkovice within three and a half minutes of the middle period. Gregory Hofmann and Dario Bürgler nevertheless earned the lead back for Davos even before the second intermission. Roman Szturc' equalizer at the begin of the third period was answered by Davos' Joe Thornton before Vladimír Svacina made it an even match again. Just when everything looked like a deserved overtime would come, Patrick Kane won the match for Davos with his strike with only 22 seconds left to play in regulation.

Now Davos has the chance to take revenge in the final for the heavy 5-0 package in the group match against Team Canada.
