Sweden wins U20 tournament in Kravare

August 31-September 2 the U20 national teams of Czech Republic, Finland, Russia and Sweden played a tournament in Kravare, Czech Republic. With two overtime wins and one win in regulation Sweden captured the first place.

 
 
 
 
The 2012 World Junior Champion Sweden continues to win. In the 4-nation tournament in the north east of Czech Republic the young Swedes got three wins in as many games.

In the first game Sweden beat Russia in overtime with a winning goal by Christian Djoos. In game two Sweden demolished the host Czech Republic. In the 10-2 win Calle Andersson, Sebastian Collberg, Elias Lindholm, Filip Sandberg and Daniel Zaar scored two goals each. The last game, against arch rival Finland, was scoreless after two periods. After one minute of the third period Johan Johnsson scores 1-0 for Sweden but Finland ties it with five minutes remaining on a goal by Patrik Parkkonen. Sebastian Collberg decided the game in favor of the Swedes at 47 seconds of the overtime.

In spite of the embarrassing 10-2 loss to Sweden, the Czech’s finished second in the tournament. On the first day they beat Finland 2-1 after a late game-winner by Jan Wasserbauer. In the last game the Czech’s beat Russia 4-3. They had a 3-1 lead after two periods but Russia came back to 3-3. At 52:38 Zdenek Dolezal got the game winner for Czech Republic.

Russia finished the tournament with three losses and only one point. The game against Finland was lost 3-5.

The same four teams will play another tournament in Sundsvall, Sweden November 9-11.
