Now the Polar Bears wtih 6 titles are the new DEL record champions
Eisbären Berlin - Adler Mannheim 3:1Just two days after giving away a 5-2 lead and not only losing in OT but also having lost the chance to win the championship at home, the Adler Mannheim were not shocked but instead were an even opponent in Tuesday's fifth and decisive DEL final. Although Berlin was the team that played with more pressure in the first period it was Ronny Arendt who opened the score for Mannheim in the 15th in one of the rare but dangerous attacks of the guests. Late in the middle period it was Barry Tallackson who tied the match in the 34th after a pass by Florian Busch. In the last 20 minutes Berlin showed more will and was rewarded with the 2-1 through Darin Olver in the 45th minute. A couple of minutes later Mannheim wanted a two minute power play but the referees didn't give the penalty against the Polar Bears and instead a counter attack lead to a penalty shot for Berlin used by Julien Talbot for the decisive 3-1 in the 51st minute.
Berlin player Barry Tallackson who was elected MVP of the final told the media: "It's an incredible feeling. This is what we have worked for so hard. Everybody in the team would have deserved this award and that I was elected is a great honour."
