Canada tops Finland to reach 3rd at WJC

Team Canada dominated on the ice in the first period, when they scored two PP goals. At the 11th minute Hunter Shinkaruk used a pass by Matt Dumba to open the scoring. During the second PP Brendan Gaunce earned a penalty shot that was denied by Finnish goalie Joonas Korpisalo. But 17 seconds later Sam Reinhart re-directed the puck after blue line shot by Josh Morrissey. The Finnish team had several chances but their PP in the first minutes wasn’t effective for them.

The second period turned the game into another way. It started at 47 seconds when Henrik Haapala made it 1-2. Then Shinkaruk made a double. After winning a face-off he took a great pass from Troy Bourke to resume their lead. In the 28th Josh Morrissey got a 5+20 penalty and created problems for the Canadian team. But Brendan Gaunce scored a shorthanded goal during this penalty in a breakaway. Finland used a time-out and they really changed. Artturi Lehkonen fired from the slot and made it 2-4. With 45 seconds remaining in the period Haapala scored another goal beating Canadian goalie Matt Murray.

In the middle of the third Rasmus Ristolainen tied the game with his wrist shot under the crossbar. The game turned in overtime where a nice sole move by Hunter Shinkaruk stopped the game at 62:05. It was the third goal for Shinkaruk in this game.
