Avangard blank Dinamo

Game 3 of the Gagarin Cup only yielded one goal, but it was Avangard who won 1:0 in Moscow to re-take the lead in the series.

It wasn't the prettiest of games, but Avangard and their fans won't care, as the Omsk side battled to a 1:0 victory in Moscow, with Karri Ramo making 21 saves for his shutout. Alexander Perezhogin scored the lone goal in the game, his third in as many games, as Avangard took the lead in the first period and then held on for the victory.

Dinamo had the better of the early exchanges, but after surviving the early onslaught, Avangard grew into the game. Perezhogin went wide on a breakaway mid way through the period, but he wasn't to be denied in the end, as in the thirteenth minute, Cervenka picked out his team mate with an inch perfect pass, leaving Alexander Yeryomenko with little hope, and the puck found the net. The goal seemed to stir Dinamo more than Avangard though, as the home side went up the other end of the ice almost immediately and rattled the pipes with a rasping Maxim Solovyov slapshot.

The second and third periods were similar, as whilst Dinamo had more puck possession, they simply could not break down Avangard's defence, causing them to rush the play and concede odd man rushes and quick counter-attacks. Dinamo kept on fighting to the bitter end, and almost tied the game in the dying seconds, Avangard left Mikhail Anisin open, but Ramo made a spectacular glove save to deny the diminutive forward and seal another shutout win in the playoffs for the Champions of the East.
