Germany for first time beats Russia at WJC (U18)

Team Germany played against the Russian team seven times before this meeting at the WJC in Czech Republic and game 8 became special.
The game started in a normal way, the Russians opened the score with Valery Nichushkin’s move to the goalie’s crease. But Germany scored twice to the end of the period to take the lead with Frederick Tiffels and Marcel Kurth’s goals. These two goals defined how the game will go in the second period. The Germans began to play faster and better and increased the lead when Marcel Kurth scored on a breakaway.
Kurth scores the game-winnerBogdan Yakimov got a pass from Alexei Bereglazov and fired from the slot to make it 2-3. The end of the second Russia played as they should but it was the last minutes of the game when Russia showed their face. Tim Bender closed the game 2-4 with a PP goal.
"We need to take a rest and don’t think about this game more, we won’t go home after this loss. We should work and try hard," said Russian forward Bogdan Yakimov.
"We played hard and played with a heart," said German head coach Jim Setters.
