The first round of the playoffs ended in KHL’s West conference with the 7th game between Torpedo and Dinamo Riga.

Torpedo 2–0 Dinamo Riga

The home team began the game more active; they made several shot on Holt’s net before Riga got a 2-minute penalty for too many players on the ice. During this power-play at 5:11 Ruslan Zainullin made a shot from zero angle to open the scoring.  Rodrigo Lavins, Marcel Hossa and Krisjanis Redlihs had chances to tie the game but all times Vitaly Koval was better than the Riga players. The next power-play chance Torpedo earned in the end of the second when Guntis Galvins got a 2-minute penalty. Before that Dinamo Riga had a real chance to tie the game but after flurries near Koval’s net the puck went out from the Torpedo zone. Galvins penalty ended with Marcel Hossa’s breakaway but Koval denied it. With 1:04 to play in the third Torpedo gifted a chance to Riga when Vladimir Gorbunov sent a puck off the ice. The Latvian team couldn’t create any danger in front of Koval’s net. When it was only 24 seconds to play Mikhail Varnakov came to an empty-net to close the game 2-0 and the series 4-3. Vitaly Koval made 34 saves to help his team to continue the battle for Gagarin Cup.

In the 2nd round at the West SKA will face Atlant like last season and other pair is Torpedo – Dynamo Moscow.
