Today the Kazakhstan Hockey Federation confirmed sanctions against Ertis Pavlodar for leaving the ice at 59:02 during a game versus Sary Arka Karaganda, alleging a double major penalty decided by the referee was an unacceptable mistake. Sary Arka won the game 5-0.

In tonight's exhibition game between SKA St. Petersburg and Carolina Hurricanes the Russian team won 5-3.

In front of 13 850 sold out crowd the newcombers AIK won the first derby in Stockholm defeating last year's finalist Djurgården 5-2.

Vyacheslav Kozlov is back in Russian club hockey after 18 years and 1,182 regular season games in the NHL.

Kozlov signed a one-year contract with CSKA Moscow.

Three national associations have submitted applications to organize the 2016 IIHF World Championship: Russia (Moscow and Kazan), Denmark (Copenhagen and Herning) and Ukraine (Kiev). The IIHF Annual Congress in Bratislava in May 2011 will decide about the allocation.

Eisbären Berlin won European Trophy after beating Swedish HV71 5-3 in the final in Salzburger Eisarena. SC Bern finished third thanks to a 3-1 win over Färjestads BK in the bronze medal game.

Yunost Minsk defeated Metallurg Zhlobin 4-1 in the final of Belarus Cup. Konstantin Zakharov, Andrei Karev, Aleksandr Kitarov and Andrei Stepanov scored for Yunost while Aleksei Plotnikov scored the only goal for Zhlobin.

Gornyak Rudny beat Sary-Arka 3-0 in the final to win the Kazakhstan Cup. Kazzinc Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk defeated Beybarys Atyrau 5-2 in the Bronze medal game. The Kazakhstan Championship starts September 10.
