Ladislav Sikorcin scored the first two goals in the 4-2 win.

After 6 losses in a row a 7th was on the way for HIFK Helsinki in Finnish SM-Liiga. Lukko had a 2-0 lead after half the game but Captain Ville Peltonen stepped up and led his team to a 3-2 win.

Russian hockey Federation announced the LG Hockey Games match Russia - Finland will be held in Mytischi Arena on February 10th. The tournament, part of the Euro Hockey Tour, will be played from 10th to 13th of February at the Stockholm Globe Arena.
The Russian B team will play in Odense (DEN) from the 9th to the 12th of February, at the Energi Danmark Challenge, part of the European Tournament Challenge versus the hosts and France.

According to Czech daily newspaper Denik Sport, the Czech Hockey Games will probably take place in Brno. The capacity of Rondo Arena is 7200 spectators.
The dates for CHG are April 21st - 24th.

Two days after announcing his retirement from hockey due to persistent injury, Swiss defender Michael Jenni died in a car accident.
Jenni, 22, played for HC Martigny and Sierre in NLB, before beginning season with 1. Liga Huttwill Falcons.

Richard Zednik leaves Slovakia for AIK in Elitserien. The Slovak forward has played close to 800 NHL games.
Zednik was involved in a nasty accident in the NHL in 2008 when he got his throat cut open by Olli Jokinen's skate.

Mexico beat Bulgaria 8-0 before 3000 fans on the Zocalo Square in Mexico City on the opening day of the World Junior Championship Division III. North Korea beat Turkey 12-4 and New Zealand got away with a 5-3 win against Taiwan.

Eisbären Berlin beat EHC München 3-2 (SO) to take the lead of the DEL.
Wolfsburg lost 2-1 to Iserloon and is one point behind Eisbären but with two games less played.

Two top teams changed their coach during the first week of January in Italy: Renon fired Erwin Kostner despite 2nd place and 4 victories in the last 5 games, but chairman Thomas Rottensteiner explained the coach had problems with many players. He was replaced by Swiss Bruno Aegerter, back in Italy after a winning season with Merano (A2 title) in 2007.
Champions Asiago surprisingly fired American coach John Harrington, temporarily replacing him with veteran player John Parco, but there are rumours about a come-back of fans' favourite former coach John Tucker. Asiago explained the firing with problems between the coach and some players.

After earlier doubts Yanick Lehoux now will return to Södertälje in Swedish Elitserien after all. The club earlier announced the signing on their homepage but later removed the news item as there was no agreement with the former club Ambri Piotta. But now everything is set for Lehoux to return to Sweden.
