Czech Extraliga Benzina Litvinov appointed Vladimir Kýhos as new coach after the mutual agreed resignement of former head coach Robert Reichel. Assistant coach Jiri Kucera remains in charge.
Kyhos, 55 years old, began the season as coach of 1. Liga HC Tabor and signs until end of the season with an option for next one.

Tomáš Závorka, goaltender of HC Energie Karlovy Vary was pulled from the net after 3:17 of play of the Czech Extraliga game in Vítkovice. The Vítkovice forwards scored on the first two shots on net and the young goaltender left his place on the ice for Lukáš Sáblík.

31 year-old Traktor Chelyabinsk forward Konstantyn Kasyanchuk was elected 2010 Ukrainian player of the year by a jury formed by journalists, coaches and players. With 74 points he precedes Vadim Shakhraichuk (Sokil Kyiv - 62 points) and Yunost Minsk forward Aleksandr Materukhin (51 points).

With a total of 23 goals this season Pihlström leads the SM-Liiga in goal scoring.

Mexico and Serbia are promoted to the 2012 IIHF World U20 Championship Div. II after finishing first and second in Div III in Mexico City. The home team beat Serbia 4-2 in the final game to win the tournament.

Carolina Hurricanes forward Eric Staal and Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidström were selected as captains for the NHL All-Star Game taking place in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, from january 28 to 30.

Two veterans made incredible things on Sunday in the Czech Tipsport Extraleague. Petr Nedved of Bili Tygri Liberec and Petr Ton of Sparta Prague both scored shorthanded goals - three on five.

This was the first time since the 1993/94 season when Czech extraleague was born, that two shorthanded goals in three on five were scored on the same day.

Petr Nedved is 39 and Petr Ton is 37.

Richard Lintner had a try-out contract with SaiPa of Finnish SM-Liiga that would expire January 29 but the parts agreed that he will stay for the rest of the season. He has scored 5 goals and 3 assists in the 13 games with Saipa.

With 12 games of 21 played of the World U20 Championship div. III in Mexico, three teams are still undefeated. Serbia, Mexico and North Korea all have three wins in as many games. Tonight the host Mexico will face North Korea while Serbia plays New Zealand.

HSC Csíkszereda wins the first of seven final games against Dab.Docler in the Hungarian-Romanian MOL Liga.

Ladislav Sikorcin scored the first two goals in the 4-2 win.

After 6 losses in a row a 7th was on the way for HIFK Helsinki in Finnish SM-Liiga. Lukko had a 2-0 lead after half the game but Captain Ville Peltonen stepped up and led his team to a 3-2 win.

12 Jan 2011, 16:48 | Russia - Finland in Mytischi, B team in Denmark

Russian hockey Federation announced the LG Hockey Games match Russia - Finland will be held in Mytischi Arena on February 10th. The tournament, part of the Euro Hockey Tour, will be played from 10th to 13th of February at the Stockholm Globe Arena.

The Russian B team will play in Odense (DEN) from the 9th to the 12th of February, at the Energi Danmark Challenge, part of the European Tournament Challenge versus the hosts and France.

According to Czech daily newspaper Denik Sport, the Czech Hockey Games will probably take place in Brno. The capacity of Rondo Arena is 7200 spectators.

The dates for CHG are April 21st - 24th.
