Ours de Villard-de-Lans announces Stéphane Barin will not remain on team bench for next season. "Stephane decided to quit coach career to focus his efforts on job". Barin closed his player career in 2008-09 at Villard and continues in the club as coach. Closing a taut series against an indomitable Val Pellice, Val Pusteria Wolves reached for the first time in its history the finals in Italian Serie A. Wolves won for the second time in Torre Pellice in front of a sold out arena to close 4-0 the series, but local fans praised their team, having fight until the end against a stronger opponent despite various key players out for injuries.
Val Pusteria now waiting to know its opponent: in other semifinal HC Bolzano won 6-1 at home versus champion Asiago and it's now 3-1 in the series: next tuesday Asiago needs an home victory to continue to keep hopes alive

HC Vítkovice Steel won game number 6 in České Budějovice 0-2 and advanced to the league semifinals.

In the only playoffs quarter finals series still opened, Shakhtar destroyed opponent Gomel with an undisputable 9-2, despite Gomel opening the score with captain Oleg Antonenko. Home team reversed score still in first period and close the match in the second with a 4-0 partial. Interesting Shakhtar scored with nine different players.

The IIHF Council - the federation's 13-member executive body - has confirmed that the ice hockey tournaments (men's and women's) at the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia 2014 will be played on international-sized rinks measuring 60 metres by 30 metres, as opposed to the North American (60 x 26).
